Activities and Events
Our 12 mile walking and bike path trail system is the circumfrence of town and mostly waterway (9 miles). Bike rentals are available and the trail is open year round. Snow and Other Winter Activities Snow enthusiasts can enjoy two ski resorts (Afton Alps and Welch Ski Village) within a few miles of each other and there is snow shoe rental at Carpenter St.Croix Valley Nature Center (open 7 days a week year round with 720 pristine arcres and an amazing interpretive center.) Cross country ski trails cascade along the bluffs of the Mississippi River, at the Schaars Bluff county park, and the St. Croix River at Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center. There is an also an indoor ice rink nearby as well as several ice rinks maintained at a half dozen local parks. Summertime Then there's the water in the summertime! There are three marinas and a free public boat launch as well as a public boat landing. The Hastings Aquatic Center is city owned and boasts zero depth entry, water sprays, and fountains. Car buffs will love Historic Hastings Saturday Cruise In held every other weekend in the summer form 5-10 pm where the main street is blocked for cards dated pre 1976. And every Sunday night in August there is a free outdoor conert on the front lawn of Old City Hall.
Orchards, organic farms, vineyards, pick your own berry fields, and a small town creamery are a few local activities that tie into the history of our agricultural community. The area has been known for over a century for its rich land and one of the largest grain mills in the country.
